Conversation with Author Emery Larue
Hello Emery! Or should I say, Hello Sensual Siren? I see you've been receiving some great reviews on your very sexy and sultry romances!
Tell us a bit about your latest release, The Richest Gift.
The Richest Gift is my first spin on a modern day fairy romance. I have always been intrigued with the folklore and tales on these mystical beings, and so rolled with it. It's based around a young boy who finds and old coin, and when he drops it into an old ell, his life takes on a new adventure. The fairy arrives, and with her, a friend he badly needs. Ove the years, things change between the two, and a romance blooms. The story was so much fun to write and I found myself feeling the characters emotions as I went. I very much enjoyed the story and hated for it to end.
You write a variety of Romances from Paranormal, to Contemporary, to Suspense. Please tell us a bit about some of your different works.
I love romance, and when a story comes to mind I let it form. When I think about how I would like for my story to be, it changes as I go. Flames of Fate, in the first stages, was more on the paranormal side. Once my publisher read it, and suggested a few things, I did a complete over haul. It ended being a modern day paranormal ghost with a suspense twist. I can never stick to one genre. Relative Dreams involves the Bloody Countess Bathory, a woman who lived in the 17th century, yet it has a modern day haunting. In truth it just depends on the story line and how it developes as I go. Lets Talk About Sex, a shorter read, I enjoyed because I played with what I feel all women dream about. A man who will sweep them off their feet and take the lead. I enjoyed it so much I wrote Lets Talk 2: Trudy's Story, and it will be coming soon from Forbidden Publications. Like I said, I love romance, and can never seem to limit myself to only one genre.
How long have you been a writer? Is this something that you've always wanted to do?
I have always wanted to be a writer but didn't get my first publishing until 2004. Before that, life seemed to be going in other directions for me. When I was younger, and still to this day, I would rather be reading then doing most anything. (Next to fishing of course.) A good romance always got my heart thumping and I knew without a doubt that I wanted to try it at least once. Now, I couldn't see not doing it at all. I love it, and though I have slowed down a bit, I still have not stopped.
How many books do you have out now?
20, I do believe and another 2 to be released soon. They can be found at:
Midnight Showcase
You seem to really love the outdoors. What type of activities do you enjoy?
I love to fish and anyone who has ever fished with me will tell you I am a serious one. LOL...I also enjoy camping and spending time out at the lake. Bow and rifle hunting are another thing I enjoy. I dont mind getting my hands dirty, but have not had the time to do much lately.
Do you get a chance to meet or interact with your fans?
Since I moved back home to Oklahoma, I have tried to get settled enough. I am involved with the local bookstore here, and am in about once a week. I am also trying to get more chats going, but things are still moving at a fast pace. I do plan to be involved in a few conferences in the coming year.
Is there anything "special" you do, like play your favorite music, etc. when writing to get those creative juices flowing?
I do play music and it depends on what I am working on at the time. The variety is huge. If my heroine is cocky and sure, I may listen to a little Eminem, (Yes, I enjoy the artists honesty.) The beat just sets the mood. I also listen to a lot of classic rock, as well as country. It just depends on what I am working on and the mood of the characters. I cant stand for it to be quiet!
Soooo, what does Sultry Emery find sexy?
In my eyes, sexy is a man or woman who can walk into a room and not care what others may think. Its all in how they feel about themselves. Sexy is a man who can look at you from across the room, and make love to you without even touching you. A smile or a simple gesture. (OK, I admit that a hard body and broad shoulders DO help in the sexy department.) But all in all, sexy to me is what comes from the inside. Because what good is the looks, if your personality leaves much to be desired.
What would be your ideal romantic getaway?
Maybe a secluded cabin in the hills with a private lake. No television, just you, the one you love and a fireplace. A campfire out doors would be nice, and feed one another marshmellows. Then when your all sticky, and with only the birds in the trees as wittness, take advantage of the private lake. (My ideal romantic getaway will change. LOL...no doubt. But I will leave you to fill in the blanks on this one.)
Here's my favorite question to ask: What is the most surprising fact about you that your fans would be shocked to know?
Are you ready? Brace yourself. I HATE CHOCOLATE! Yes, I know it seems to be some sin I never knew about. Everyone looks at me like I lost my mind, but it is true. In order for me to eat it, I have to really want it. The stuff makes me sick. I would really rather eat a piece of fruit.
Are there any other authors' work that has inspired you or your work?
I adore Lora Leigh. The way she spins a story just gets the blood pumping and the heart racing. Her characters always keep me waiting for the next book. Christine Feehan is among my favorites. Her Dark Series is one I can say I hope never ends. Sharon Sala is also a favorite, along with Cathryn Fox, Karen Moning, R. Casteel....The list is endless.
Who would you say has had the most positive effect on your life?
My mother is my hero and best friend, as well as my sister. They are the bravest most interesting women I have ever known. M.L. I would say, is my rock in the writing world. She has never failed to help me get back on track. (Even if it took me awhile.) I have several friends who support me, and I really dont know what I would do without them.
Can you tell us about your family? Any children?
I have two awesome kids. My son withh be 11 soon and my daughter will be 9. They are four hours from being exactly two years apart. I never really knew love until they came along. They are wonderful, and very understanding. They both hope to write a book with their mom, and are developing their own characters. Of course, it will be a book for the young reader, but I dont think I have ever looked forward to a work in progress more.
So, what is new and upcoming for you in this brand new year?
This year, The Huntress, Book 4 in The Portal Series was released from Forbidden Publications. Two others, Lets Talk ABout Sex2 & A Touch of Taboo, will be coming from Forbidden as well. I am working on a full novel, and it involves 3 cowboys and the ladies who win their hearts. Also, I plan to finish another suspense. It has yet to be titled. Another free read is in the works. In all of this I also plan to enroll my daughter in gymnastics and my son in kick boxing. This is my year to finish many works in progress.
Anything exciting going on for Valentines that fans should be on the look out for?
This year, I plan on working on an anthology based around several holidays. So as for a holiday read, I dont think to have it completed until the following year.
